The barrage of stones sent NAME scrambling for cover, picking up a few cuts and bruises along the way. Once there, he/she began throwing rocks back at his ambushers. NAME fastened a rope to the rocks above and swung down to snatch the poor girl before the giant could do any harm. The two of them scampered back up the rope to safety. As the girl fled, she pledged that her father would reward NAME handsomely when he/she returned to town.

NAME charged the giant, heedless of danger. While the show of bluster was enough to give the girl a chance to escape, it also earned the giant's ire -- and a nice smack with its huge club. Nobody said heroing was going to be easy, but it did have its rewards. The girl's father gave NAME a small gift of thanks when he/she got back to town.

A rather crazed-looking gnome barred NAME's path. NAME supposed that crazed-looking gnome was a redundant description, but didn't have time to come up with a better one as the gnome immediately demanded NAME's most prized possession or else it would not allow him/her to pass.

(found in The Paladin's Curse, encounter #1,2)

NAME cleverly told the gnome that his/her greatest possession was his/her vow of poverty, and offered to exchange it for whatever loot the gnome had on hand. For reasons that may never become clear, the gnome agreed. NAME thought about it for a bit, and refused to pay the crazy little gnome. NAME heard shouting up ahead and, when he/she came around the corner, saw a human and a dwarf arguing in front of a wide gap in the trail. Both the human and dwarf were outfitted for adventure. While the show of bluster was enough to give the girl a chance to escape, it also earned the giant's ire -- and a nice smack with its huge club. Nobody said heroing was going to be easy, but it did have its rewards. The girl's father gave NAME a small gift of thanks when he/she got back to town.

Not taking any chances, NAME sneaked up on the scout and dispatched him with a well placed strike from his/her WEAPON. There were no clues to indicate what the drow was doing here . . . an ominous event indeed. Unfortunately, the drow spotted NAME as well. When NAME moved in to investigate, he/she was struck by a small crossbow bolt dripping with poison. The scout had revealed his position and was no match for NAME in single combat.

Enjoying the fresh mountain air, NAME began to juggle a few objects he/she had with him/her. A few skeletons came upon NAME and were so transfixed by the juggling that they started tossing him bones to juggle.

A rather crazed-looking gnome barred NAME's path. NAME supposed that crazed-looking gnome was a redundant description, but didn't have time to come up with a better one as the gnome immediately demanded NAME's most prized possession or else it would not allow him/her to pass.

(found in The Paladin's Curse, encounter #1)

NAME cleverly told the gnome that his/her greatest possession was his/her vow of poverty, and offered to exchange it for whatever loot the gnome had on hand. NAME encountered a family of farmers with a broken-down wagon. The horses were willing but the wagon was not. The mother explained that they were bringing their wheat and cured meats up the mountainside for sale in a few villages. With their cart broken they can only carry precious little to sell. NAME heard shouting up ahead and, when she came around the corner, saw a human and a dwarf arguing in front of a wide gap in the trail. Both the human and dwarf were outfitted for adventure. Their argument was about how they would cross the gap. Apparently it was too wide for the dwarf to jump across, and the human had suggested he could throw the dwarf across it.

Through his/her diplomatic prowess, NAME was able to convince the dwarf that flight, no matter how it is achieved, is the most noble and respected of glories. "Even if someone were to witness this event," continued NAME, "they would tell the tale of a dwarf who flew across an impossibly large gap, and no mention of tossing would be made." The three of them all crossed the gap successfully, and the human passed NAME a reward for his/her help behind the dwarf's back. NAME shrugged off the poison, ripping the arrow out, and used it as a crude weapon against the hobgoblins! NAME couldn't ignore the poison. In fact, a nap seemed like a fantastic idea. When NAME woke up, he/she found that the hobgoblins had stolen some of his/her rations.

(found in Fortress of the Fire Lord, encounter #6)

NAME grabbed a handful with his/her glove and stuck it into an empty pouch. The flower's thorns scratched his/her wrist but their poison seemed to have little ill effect. NAME was stunned by the hobgoblins' attacks! Not only was he wounded, they also stole a piece of his armor! He'll need to replace that as soon as possible.

NAME found his/her way into a serious amount of trouble -- a "checkpoint" set up by "protectors" of the mountain. When he/she didn't feel like paying the toll, they didn't feel like talking.

While escaping from a run-in with a mountain yeti, NAME stumbled into a spider web. A very, very large web. Down from overhanging branches came a swarm of bloodweb spiders looking for their next meal. They were on NAME before he/she could react.

(found in Dragonjaw Dungeon, encounter #11)

(found in Red Plume Mountain, encounter #8) Template:Undefined

NAME broke free from the web and slashed at the swarm with his WEAPON. As if thinking with one mind, the swarm dispersed at once and disappeared. The husk of their last meal lay on the ground below the torn web. NAME looted it and continued on his/her quest. NAME failed to damage the swarm and appeared destined to become their next meal. Suddenly, a freak thunderstorm broke out, confusing the swarm for a moment. NAME wasted no time escaping -- leaving the swarm with nothing to feast on.

A curious outcropping of rock caught NAME's attention. Its moss had been entirely scraped and singed off. When he/she left the trail to take a closer look, he/she could see a dark recess hidden behind the rocks. Moving carefully, NAME took a step toward the cave . . . then froze as a sudden cacophony erupted from within. He/She had no time to respond before a swarm of dragon whelps, upset at being disturbed, rushed straight at him/her!

(found in Dragonjaw Dungeon, encounter #11) (found in Glacier of the Frost Giant, encounter #6)

(found in Red Plume Mountain, encounter #9)

NAME wasted no time springing to action. Flames and claws tore through the air as he dodged the swarm, striking back at anything that got too close. After a hard battle, half of the whelps lay dead on the mountain floor and the other half had fled back into the cave. NAME took a few moments to skin some of the salvageable whelp hides, then headed back to the trail.

NAME readied his/her WEAPON just as the swarm of dragon whelps descended upon him/her. He/She desperately tried to defend himself/herself amidst the madness of wings and claws, but there were just too many of them. Bleeding and burnt, NAME finally managed to break free from the whelps by rolling down into a steep ravine. The threat to their home averted, the dragon whelps returned to their cave. NAME wisely decided not to follow suit.

NAME heard shouting up ahead and, when he/she came around the corner, saw a human and a dwarf arguing in front of a wide gap in the trail. Both the human and dwarf were outfitted for adventure. Their argument was about how they would cross the gap. Apparently it was too wide for the dwarf to jump across, and the human had suggested he could throw the dwarf across it.

"Even if someone were to witness this event," continued NAME, "they would tell the tale of a dwarf who flew across an impossibly large gap, and no mention of tossing would be made." The three of them all crossed the gap successfully, and the human passed NAME a reward for his/her help behind the dwarf?s [sic] back. FAIL TEXT

"Why is this place called the Village of Infinite Vision," repeated the barkeep, letting out a heavy sigh. "I had such hope for you, too," she said. NAME was confused. He/she had no time to respond before a swarm of dragon whelps, upset at being disturbed, rushed straight at him/her!

(found in Into the Ogre's Den, encounter #12)

NAME wasted no time springing to action. Flames and claws tore through the air as he dodged the swarm, striking back at anything that got too close. After a hard battle, half of the whelps lay dead on the mountain floor and the other half had fled back into the cave.
