NAME heard a creaking noise from above, and looked up to see a tree limb crashing down! A treant attack!

NAME dodged out of the way of the falling fist-like branch and ran. The treant, usually a friend to the elves, must have been confused by the evil in the Tree Temple. S/He ducked into a crevice between two boulders to hide and found the skeleton of a previous adventurer. The dead adventurer's gold had gotten stuck with him.

NAME tried to dodge away from the treant, but its roots tangled around his/her foot! The treant's leafy arm crashed down painfully upon NAME. He/She knew the treant should be a friend to the elves, but this one must have been changed by the magic. As the treant pulled its arm up for a second swing, NAME held on, allowing the treant to pull him/her out of the roots. Once clear, NAME leapt away and ran as fast as he/she could.

NAME crept quietly into a dark chamber from which a slow and deep drumbeat could be heard. Strangely, there didn't seem to be anyone in the room. Feeling his/her way through the dark, NAME neared the source of the thrumming noise and lit a candle, hiding its light from those outside the room in case any of the temple's current inhabitants came by. There, slowly pulsing in the dark, was the wooden heart of the Tree Temple, literally beating!

NAME saw that the heart was wrapped in iron bands that constricted its beat, and many deep cuts scarred its surface, dripping sap. Trusting the elf leader's foresight, NAME placed the magic seed in one of the heart's wounds. A breath later, the bands exploded from the heart! As NAME got to his/her feet, the Tree Temple rocked with action and NAME could hear screams throughout the structure. The Tree Temple was awake and fighting the invaders! Soon it would be safe for the elves again. The elf leader would reward him/her handsomely. NAME saw that the heart was wrapped in iron bands that constricted its beat, and many deep cuts scarred its surface, dripping sap. But what was the magic seed for? NAME turned back to find the elf leader, who gave him/her some gold for the attempt.
